The ASEAN mineral sector cooperation forum was established in 1996 through the 1^st ASOMM meeting held on 22-24 October 1996, in Bali, Indonesia. This forum was formed as a follow-up to the outcomes of the 5^th ASEAN Summit in 1995 in Bangkok, as outlined in the Bangkok Summit Declaration of 1995, held on December 14-15, 1995. The 1^st ASOMM meeting resolved to establish a forum for ASEAN mineral cooperation discussions, named the ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Minerals (ASOMM). ASOMM was designated as the primary forum for discussions on sub-sector mineral cooperation within ASEAN. The ASOMM forum comprises senior officials from ASEAN member states responsible for policy formulation and development in the mineral sub-sector within their respective countries. The 1^st ASOMM meeting also agreed to establish the ASOMM Working Group (ASOMM WG). ASOMM convenes annually to discuss cooperation in sub-sector mineral areas as outlined in the ASEAN Mineral Cooperation Action Plan (AMCAP), and all activities are reported to the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Minerals (AMMin), held every two years.

The ASOMM Working Group (WG) is a technical-level meeting within the ASEAN region with a specific agenda to discuss the mineral sector, tasked with formulating the ASEAN Mineral Cooperation Action Plan (AMCAP) for a five-year term. The ASOMM WG is divided into four working groups:

• Working Group on Trade and Investment (WGTIM)
• Working Group on Sustainable Mineral Development (WGSMD)
• Working Group on Capacity Building on Mineral (WGCBM)
• Working Group on Mineral Information and Database (WGMID)

The 11^th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Minerals (ASOMM) Joint Working Groups (JWG) Meeting and Its Associated Meetings will be held from April 29th to May 3rd, 2024, in Legian, Bali; Venue: Hotel The Stones - Legian, Bali - Autograph Collection, located at The Stones Entertainment Center, Jl. Raya Pantai Kuta Banjar Legian Kelod Legian Bali, Legian, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali, Indonesia. The 1^st ASOMM WG event is expected to be attended by 11 participating countries (including Indonesia), 6 Dialogue Partners, the ASEC Secretariat, and delegations from Indonesia, with a total of approximately 160 participants.
